CHAPCHAR KUT CELEBRATED WITH GAIETY AND ENTHUSIASM

Most popularly and widely celebrated Mizo festival, ‘Chapchar Kut’ is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and utmost enthusiasm at Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl today. Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla is the ‘Festival Patriarch’ (Kut Pa ) for the occasion.

The Festival Patriarch, Pu Lal Thanhawla, who donned the Mizo farmer’s traditional outfit recalled the hardwork our forefathers have had to endured in their quest for better harvest even under extreme conditions at a time. Even then they could spare time for merry making such as this festival, he went on to say. As the festival insists the occasion should be transformed into making a better relationship event,an opportunity for friends making and above all, to create an atmosphere of communal harmany, the Chief Minister added.

During the celebration, a number of traditioanal dance, songs and skits were performed much to the delight of the audience and spectators alike. However, it was the mass cheraw dance that truely enthralled the people - a 63 different ‘nests’, each with 16 dancers that comprised a mass dance, performed under one single rythmic sound. Interestingly, it is this Mass Cheraw Dance, popularly known as ‘Bamboo Dance’ that would attempts to hold Guinness Record tomorrow in Aizawl.

Amongst the participants in today’s celebration includes delegates from Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, New Delhi, and a number of eminent national journalists.
